Australian captain Steve Smith has reached a career-best 939 points in the latest International Cricket Council (ICC) Player Rankings.

The 27-year-old remains in first place on the Test batsman list with his total being the sixth highest of all time.

Only Australian greats Sir Don Bradman and Ricky Ponting along with England’s Len Hutton, Jack Hobbs and Peter May have scored higher totals in the past.

Smith recently hit his 18th Test century during Australia’s 333-run thrashing of India in Pune.

Virat Kohli, captain of India, sits in second place 66 points behind Smith.

Joe Root, who became England’s Test captain on February 13, is third on 848.
