The Senegal National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSS) served as a partner of the 22nd edition of the Somone Half-Marathon at the Cayman Dakar Club.

Vice-president Albertine Gonçalves represented the CNOSS at the event, where Somone’s own Mbaye Diop won the men’s competition with a time of 1 hour 13min 26sec and Franco-American Daniella Van Legello took top honours in the women’s equivalent in 1:39:45.

Men’s and women’s 10 kilometres events were also held as Nicolas Vitalis of Les éléments français au Sénégal won the former in 36min 32sec and Italy’s Livia Satullo the latter in 46:14.

More than 500 participants registered for the two distances, races being held on the edge of the Somone Lagoon Reserve.

Among those in attendance was Somone Mayor Bocar Sadji and Senegalese Athletics Federation representative Djiby Diouf, who participated in the awards ceremony with all the event’s partners.

The CNOSS were represented by 22 athletes at last year’s Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Senegal failed to win a medal.

The country’s first and only Olympic medal was a silver won by Amadou Dia Ba in the men’s 400 metres hurdles at Seoul 1988.
