The Italia Thunder secured their second victory of the new World Series of Boxing season as they edged a thrilling contest with the Morocco Atlas Lions at the Palasport Vespucci in Rome.

The hosts were locked in a tense battle with the Moroccan team and the tie was level at 2-2 going into the final bout of the night.

Guido Vianello managed to emerge with a split decision win over Mohammed Arjaoui in their super heavyweight clash to wrap up a narrow victory for the home side.

In the other Group B encounter to take place today, the British Lionhearts bounced back from their loss at the hands of the Italia Thunder as they overcame the France Fighting Roosters 3-2 at the Salle Wagram in Paris.

London 2012 Olympian Abdelali Daraa got the Morocco Atlas Lions off to the best possible start in their match with the Thunder as he breezed to a unanimous victory against WSB newcomer Gianmario Serra in their flyweight bout.

The hosts levelled when Michael Magnes ousted Mohamed Hamout at lightweight before Olympic bronze medallist Vincenzo Mangiacapre put the Italian team in front by prevailing in his welterweight contest with Anas Messaoudi.

Light heavyweight competitor Abdelrahman Salah Orabi of Egypt then restored parity for the visitors, earning a unanimous win over Valentino Manfredonia to set up a winner-takes-all bout between Vianello and Arjaoui.

Fortunately for the home crowd inside the arena in the Italian capital, Vianello was awarded the fight on two judges' scorecards as he ensured the Italia Thunder maintained their 100 per cent start to the campaign.

The France Fighting Roosters were hoping to mark their first home WSB contest for five years with a win but they began on the back foot as rising star Muhammad Ali defeated Elie Konki in their flyweight bout.

Rio 2016 Olympic lightweight silver medallist Sofiane Oumiha's triumph against Luke McCormack levelled the scores at 1-1 but the Lionhearts won the next two contests to seal an impressive away victory.

First, Radoslav Pantaleev of Bulgaria beat Kevin Lele Sadjo at light heavyweight to move the visitors in front before super heavyweight Frazer Clarke overcame Jonathan Nacto in unanimous fashion.

Olympic bronze medallist Souleymane Cissokho swept aside Cyrus Pattinson in the final bout of the night, emerging from their welterweight clash with a unanimous win but it mattered little as the British team left with the points.
