Olympic champions Marielle Thompson of Canada and Frenchman Jean-Frédéric Chapuis can secure the women's and men's International Ski Federation (FIS) Ski Cross World Cup titles with victory at the latest event on the circuit, which begins in Sunny Valley in Russia tomorrow.

Thompson and Chapuis will both be hoping to get the job done when they compete in the Russian resort, which is playing host to just its second Ski Cross World Cup event.

It is the first time Russia has staged ski cross since a test event for the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic Games.

Action begins with qualification tomorrow, before the finals take place on Saturday (February 25).

Canadian Thompson arrives in Sunny Valley with a commanding lead at the top of the women's World Cup standings as she currently has 765 points.

The 24-year-old has a 135-point lead over nearest challenger Sandra Naeslund of Sweden.

Thompson will also be hoping to seal a 19th World Cup career win, which would see her move level with Sweden's Anna Holmlund on the all-time list, led by France's Ophelie David, who has 26.

Chapuis is also chasing an all-time record as he is one victory away from Tomas Kraus of the Czech Republic on the men's all-time list.

The Frenchman will make history as the first man to clinch three consecutive Ski Cross World Cup titles if he emerges victorious in Sunny Valley.

His most recent outing on the circuit proved to be a disappointment, however, as he finished fourth and sixth in the two events held in Idre Fjall in Sweden earlier this month.

The 27-year-old sits 143 points above Brady Leman of Canada in the race for the overall crown and a win will be enough to give him an insurmountable advantage.
