Greece will host the next edition of the World Taekwondo President's Cup in Athens in April, the European Taekwondo Union (ETU) has announced.

Competition at the event, due to run from April 27 to 30, is scheduled to be held at the Ano Liosia Olympic Indoor Hall in the Greek capital, which played host to judo and wrestling at the 2004 Olympic Games.

Around 1,500 athletes could compete at the World Taekwondo President's Cup, where qualification for the European Championships will also be on offer.

The ETU are set to hold their European Olympic Categories Championships at the Minsk Sports Palace in Belarus from September 7 to 9.

Action in Athens will feature both kuorugi and poomsae competitions.

Athletes will compete in 28 weight categories across three age divisions, senior, junior and cadet.

Seniors are those aged 17 or above while juniors are players born between 1999 and 2001.

Cadet athletes are born between 2002 and 2004.

The top four ranked men and women in each senior category will secure their spot at the European Olympic Categories Championships.

The four athletes who claim medals in the junior divisions will qualify for this year's ETU Junior Championships in Cyprus in November, while those in the cadet classes will bid to seal a berth at the ETU Cadet Championships in Hungary in September.

The tournament will operate a single elimination system according to World Taekwondo Federation rules, with individual matches consisting of three two minute rounds with a one minute break between each.
