Twelve Rio 2016 Olympians, including men's individual gold medallist Uladzislau Hancharou of Belarus, are set to compete at the first Trampoline World Cup leg of the year, which begins tomorrow at the National Gymnastics Arena in Baku in Azerbaijan.

The season opener features individual and synchronised trampoline gymnastics and tumbling competitions and will welcome 83 registered gymnasts, who represent 15 different countries.

For the Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation, it is the second time they have staged the Trampoline World Cup, following the inaugural event in 2016, although the tumbling events are a new addition to the schedule this year.

The qualification rounds are scheduled for tomorrow and before the finals on Sunday (February 19).

Hancharou, who won men's individual gold in Rio, will face tough competition London 2012 silver and Beijing 2008 bronze medallist Dmitrii Ushakov of Russia.

Rio 2016 finalists Andrey Yudin of Russia and Japanese duo Ginga Munetomo and Masaki Ito are all expected post strong performances in the synchronised competition.

Mikhail Melnik of Russia, who won the 2016 world series with partner Sergei Azarian, teams up with rising talent Oleg Selyutin.

In both the women’s individual and synchronised competitions, Olympic finalists and 2014 and 2015 World silver medallists Tatsiana Piatrenia and Hanna Harchonak of Belarus are the favourites.

Their most likely challengers will be Russia’s Susana Kochesok and Anna Kornetskaya, the 2016 world ranking runners-up.

Rio 2016 competitors Marine Jurbert of France and Japan's Rana Nakano are expected to lead the women's individual competition.

Jurbert finished 14th in the qualification round in the Brazilian city while Nakano took 13th.
