World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) and European Softball Federation (ESF) officials held a meeting with the Serbian Minister of Sport, Vanja Udovicic.

The reception at the Palace of Serbia, located in the capital of Belgrade, was attended by WBSC Softball chairman Dale McMann, executive director Ron Radigonda, assistant executive director Laurie Gouthro, ESF President Gabriel Waage and Serbian Softball Federation President Slobodan Djuric.

It took place prior to the start of the ESF and Confederation of European Baseball joint congress.

"It is a pleasure to have the opportunity to host top officials from the World and European softball and baseball federations at the Congress in Belgrade, showing initiative in developing international relations in the field of sport, as well as supporting sports that do not have a long tradition in Serbia," said Udovicic.

Udovicic, who became the Minister of Youth and Sports in 2013, also praised the efforts of the Serbian Softball Federation for investing in the development of the sport throughout the country.

Softball is considered a relatively new sport in Serbia with the Serbian Softball Federation only established in 2005.

However, Udovicic also expressed his delight at Serbia’s performance at last year's WBSC Women's Softball World Championship in Canada.

The tournament marked Serbia’s softball debut on the world stage.

They finished in 25th place following defeats to Switzerland, Mexico, Australia, Greece and Austria in the early stages.

However, in the placement round, they overcame Switzerland 7-6 and Ireland 8-5 to move up to 28th in the world rankings.
