Denmark will be aiming to continue their superiority in the European Mixed Team Badminton Championships as they go in search of their 17th title in Lubin in Poland this week.

The 2017 edition of the tournament will be played at the Regionalne Centrum Sportow in the Polish city from tomorrow until February 19.

Group stage matches will be played tomorrow and Thursday (February 16), with the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final played across the following three days.

Two years ago, Denmark overcame England in the final in Leuven in Belgium to reclaim the title they lost to Germany two years before.

Once again it is the Danes who arrive in Poland as the overwhelming favourites to lift the title.

In the previous 22 editions of the Championships, Denmark have won 16 times and the defending champions have been drawn in Group A alongside France and Bulgaria.

The 2015 runners up, England, will contest group two with Ireland and Sweden while Germany, Switzerland and The Netherlands make up group three.

Spain will return to the tournament after missing the 2015 edition when the country's top players refused to sign over their image rights to the Spanish Badminton Federation.

Under a controversial agreement, the players were asked to give up 45 per cent of their earnings to the Federation, who would also be able to dictate how many sponsors they could endorse on their kit in international competition.

The Spanish team have been drawn in group four alongside Russia and Poland.

The 2015 edition in Belgium saw the introduction of a top 12 competition after a series of qualification tournaments around Europe.

Of the 12 qualifiers in 2015, 10 have retained their spot in the competition with Bulgaria and Switzerland replacing Scotland and Belgium as the two newest entrants.
