Olympic champion Pierre Vaultier won his first International Ski Federation (FIS) Snowboard Cross World Cup title of the season in Feldberg in Germany.

The Frenchman, the defending overall World Cup champion, topped the podium at the fourth attempt after a silver last time out in Bansko in Bulgaria.

He beat Lucas Eguibar of Spain in the big final, with Omar Visintin of Italy coming through for bronze.

Regino Hernandez, another Spaniard, was the snowboarder to miss out on the podium from the big final as he came fourth.

Visintin has not won an event this season but has finished on the podium three times.

That sees him lead the World Cup standings on 2,650 points with Austria's Alessandro Hammerle second on 2,500.

In the women's competition, Italy's Michela Moioli ensured that both defending World Cup champions would taste success.

She beat Australia's Belle Brockhoff, a winner of two World Cup titles this season, into second place.

Third went to Meryeta Odine of Canada as Alexandra Jekova of Bulgaria came fourth in the big final.

Brockhoff continues to lead the standings with 3,200 points, with Czech Olympic champion Eva Samkova, who was eighth today, second on 2,570.

Moioli now sits third on 2,490.

Both the men and women will contest a second World Cup competition in Feldberg tomorrow.
