Men’s fourth seed Jonatan Christie was the biggest high profile player to be knocked out of the Princess Sirivannavari Thailand Masters today.

The Indonesian player was beaten in the second round of the Badminton World Federation Grand Prix Gold event in Bangkok by India’s Aditya Joshi 21-16, 21-19.

Christie was the only seed in either the men’s or women’s singles draws to suffer defeat today.

In an all-Thailand clash, top seed Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk progressed in the men’s singles against Rattanapak Oupthong, winning 21-16, 21-18.

Women’s top seed Busanan Ongbamrung also got past the challenge of Japanese player Natsuki Nidaira with the Thai star coming through 21-16, 21-17.

Two pairs of seeds were knocked out in the doubles competitions.

First to go were Thailand’s Nipitphon Phuangphua and Jongkolpha Kititharak as the eighth seeds lost 21-11, 21-12 in the mixed doubles against Singapore’s Yantoni Ed Saputra and Marsheilla Islami.

There was more disappointment later on for Kititharak as in the women’s doubles, she and her partner Rawinda Prajongjai, the third seeds, were beaten 21-14, 8-21, 21-16 by China’s Bao Yixin and Yu Ziaohan.

Action at the tournament is due to continue until Sunday (February 12).
