Los Angeles 2024 bid bosses have appointed Marla Messing and Peter Tomozawa to leadership roles in the campaign.

Messing has become the bid’s vice president and executive director of sport leader relations and will work with Olympic and Paralympic stakeholders and governing bodies in the United States and technology firms who might help at the Games.

Tomozawa has taken up the role of vice president and executive director for partnerships and board relations, which will see him work with “institutional partners and board members”.

Messing was the President and chief executive officer of the 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup hosted in the US and was one of the founding members of Major League Soccer.

“It is a great honour to join LA 2024’s talented team and oversee relationships with American national governing bodies and sports leaders, a crucially important group of stakeholders in ensuring LA 2024’s Games Plan delivers the best possible experience for both athletes and fans,” Messing said.

During his time as an advisor for the Mayor of Honolulu, Tomozawa helped negotiate a deal to finance a $6 billion rail project and has also worked at investment bankers Goldman Sachs as head of foreign exchange sales.

“Los Angeles is uniquely suited to delivering a transformative Games in 2024,” Tomozawa said.

“Not only is LA blessed with ideal weather and a wealth of existing, world-class infrastructure, but the city also has a vibrant network of creators, innovators and entrepreneurs who are revolutionizing the way the world works, plays and communicates.”

Alongside LA, Paris and Budapest are also bidding to host the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

A decision is due to be made on September 13 at the International Olympic Committee session in Lima, Peru.
