Thailand's world number 11 Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk began with a comfortable victory at action got underway at the Badminton World Federation Grand Prix Gold event in Bangkok.

The home player is the number one seed for the men's singles at the tournament which is doubling as the Princess Sirivannavari Thailand Masters.

Saensomboonsuk triumphed 21-15, 21-17 in a stern but comfortable opening test against Indonesian opponent Andre Marteen.

Other top ranked players were similarly untroubled at the Nimibutr Stadium.

China's second seed Huang Yuxiang won 21-17, 21-8 over Thailand's Adulrach Namkul.

Indonesia's third and fourth seeds Tommy Sugiarto and Jonatan Christie also progressed in straightforward fashion.

Sugiarto prevailed 21-19, 21-15 against Malaysia's R Satheishth.

Christie overcame Naoki Yamazawa of Japan 21-12, 21-13.

No seeded players were beaten on the opening day of competition.

Indian brothers Sameer and Sourabh Verma, the respective eighth and 11th seeds, each did not appear and consequently exited by walkover.

Only qualification action took place today in the women's singles and three doubles event.

First round action is scheduled to begin in those competitions tomorrow.
