The European Handball Federation (EHF) has signed a three year deal with Dutch firm Axitour Communications System to supply technology for referees to use.

Officials in matches, including those in the EHF Champions League, EHF Cup, EHF European Championship and beach handball events, will be provided with devices from the company.

During the matches, up to five officials will be able to communicate with each other using the hands-free kits.

As part of the deal, Axitour’s branding will be included on the referees’ clothing.

"We are very pleased to welcome Axitour as an official EHF supplier," said EHF President Michael Wiederer.

"They bring with them proven technical expertise and will ensure that the federation’s referees are provided with the best communications equipment on the market."

Axitour have experience of working in handball as they already provide devices for match officials in The Netherlands, Iceland, Austria, Finland, Czech Republic and Slovakia.

"The cooperation with the EHF contributes to our plans for international growth and offers us the possibility to improve the level of officiating at all levels in Europe," Ben Engelen, Axitour’s director, said.
