Discovery Communications has announced seven new partnerships with broadcasters across Europe for the Pyeongchang 2018 and Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

The news includes an agreement with Telewizja Polska, a leading national broadcaster in Poland, as well as with Eesti Meedia in Estonia, Georgian Public Broadcasting in Georgia, RÚV in Iceland and Latvijas Televīzija in Latvia.

A deal has also been agreed with Lietuvos Olimpinis Fondas, managed by the National Olympic Committee of Lithuania, as well as Czech Radio in the Czech Republic.

The radio deal supplements a non-exclusive rights partnership already signed with Ceska Televize.

The deals are the latest to be announced after Discovery penned a contract with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) last June, which will see Pan-European television sports network Eurosport become the continent's Olympic broadcaster.

Discovery has signed 18 sub-licence deals with broadcasters across the continent since then, in countries including Austria, Croatia, Finland, Hungary, Ireland, The Netherlands, Switzerland and Britain.

All of today's agreements cover free-to-air audio-visual rights for Pyeongchang and Tokyo.

According to Discovery, they aim to "share the Games with more people, on more screens, than ever before".

Peter Hutton, chief executive of Eurosport, said: "We are excited and proud to work with partners that value the Olympic Games as much as we do, and help us achieve our ambition to bring the Games to more people on more screens than ever before.

"When you consider alongside our decision for Eurosport to retain the exclusive rights in Germany and our preparations for extensive coverage in Norway and Sweden, these new agreements are a further sign that we are well on track to delivering the ultimate Olympic Games experience."

Adam Widomski, the Eurosport channel director in Poland, added: “People across Poland are hugely passionate about the Olympic Games and the new agreement with Telewizja Polska will form part of an outstanding variety of coverage across free tv, dedicated sports programming and digital platforms.

"For fans wanting to follow every minute of their heroes' quest for gold, there is no better time to go on their Olympic Games journey."

Yesterday, a pricing dispute between Discovery Communications and Sky in the United Kingdom was resolved after an agreement was signed.
