Pusarla Sindhu claimed the women’s singles title on home soil today at the Syed Modi International Grand Prix in the Indian city of Lucknow.

The 21-year-old, ranked number one in the world back in December, defeated her compatriot Gregoria Mariska in today’s final.

Sindhu, the home favourite and top seed, made light work of her opponent and claimed the title with relative ease in straight sets.

The Rio 2016 women’s singles silver medallist won 21-13, 21-14 in just 30 minutes.

Sameer Verma then completed a clean sweep in the singles competitions for the hosts as he also won in straight sets.

Verma, seeded eighth in the tournament, defeated Sai Praneeth Bhamidipati 21-19, 21-16 in an all Indian final.

India also enjoyed success in the mixed doubles final today.

The hosts were always guaranteed at least a gold after Pranaav Jerry Chopra and N Sikki Reddy faced their compatriots Ponnappa and B Sumeeth Reddy.

It was Chopra and Reddy who were victorious though.

Their opponents provided a stern challenge in the opening exchanges, refusing to be beaten in the first set.

Chopra and Reddy eventually got the better of them winning 22-20 before claiming the second 21-10.

Demark also enjoyed doubles success today as the European nation claimed both the men’s and women’s titles.

The men’s doubles top seeds, Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen, defeated eighth seeds Lu Ching Yao and Yang Po Han of Chinese Taipei 21-14, 21-15.

Christinna Pedersen and her partner Kamilla Ry Juhl of Denmark, also top seeds, prevailed in a hostile atmosphere against India’s Ashwini Ponnappa and Sikki Reddy.

The Danes got the better of their opponents in just 38 minutes, winning 21-16, 21-18.
