South Africa have won the third round of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series with a 26-5 win over Fiji in the final in Wellington today.

In a replay of Saturday's Pool B encounter, the Blitzboks were once again superior to the Rio 2016 Olympic champions at the Westpac Stadium.

Seabelo Senatla had a memorable weekend as he was named the Player of the Final and became South Africa's top rugby sevens try scorer with 180.

South Africa had not won in the Westpac Stadium since 2002 and they had to rally after Joeli Lutumailagi opened the scoring for Fiji, before Senatla levelled minutes later.

In the second half, Rosko Specman came off the bench to increase the South African lead before two tries from Ruhan Nel sealed their second tournament win this season.

"I got burned early on (in the final) which doesn’t happen very often, but got back to my structure,” said Senatla.

“It was all about keeping calm and starting again.

“We have a great bond, the players play for each other.

“We have one big happy family, and we put our bodies on the line for each other.”

South Africa breezed past the tournament’s surprise package Canada 21-5 in their semi-final while Fiji withstood an early Scottish barrage to claim a 19-12 win.

A superb hat-trick by James Fleming then inspire Scotland to claim the bronze medal, defeating the Canadians 28-22 in the bronze medal match.

Hosts New Zealand, who finished yesterday with a 100 per cent record, crashed out in the quarter finals as Fiji scored three early tries and never let up, winning 26-10.

However, they did manage to reach the fifth placed play-off, but were once again beaten on home soil.

This time Argentina were too strong for the hosts as they claimed fifth place with a 17-12 win.

The HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series now moves to Sydney in Australia next week where it joins up with the women's tournament for the fourth round of the season.
