Home favourite and top seed Pusarla Sindhu beat Indonesia’s Fitriani Fitriani in straight games today to reach the women’s singles final at the Syed Modi International Grand Prix in Indian city Lucknow.

Pusarla overcame the fourth seed 21-11, 21-19 to advance to tomorrow’s final, where she will face another Indonesian, Gregoria Mariska.

The unseeded Mariska proved too strong for sixth-seeded compatriot Hanna Ramadini, triumphing 21-19, 21-14 at the Babu Banarasi Das Indoor Stadium.

In the men’s singles, ninth seed Sai Praneeth Bhamidipati and eighth seed Sameer Verma both came through all-Indian semi-finals today.

Sai Praneeth came from behind to upset third seed Srikanth Kidambi 15-21, 21-10, 21-17, while Verma defeated 15th seed Harsheel Dani 21-15, 21-11.

Denmark’s Christinna Pedersen and Kamilla Rytter Juhl remain on course for the women’s doubles title after the top seeds beat Malaysia’s Yap Cheng Wen and Yin Loo Lim 23-21, 21-14.

Standing between them and success are India’s Ashwini Ponnappa and N. Sikki Reddy, who defeated compatriots Sanjana Santosh and Arathi Sar Sunil 18-21, 21-12, 21-13.

The top seeds in the men’s doubles, Denmark’s Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen, are also through to their final thanks to an 11-21, 21-17, 21-19 win over Indonesia’s Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Rian Ardianto.

Eighth seeds Lu Ching Yao and Yang Po Han of Chinese Taipei will be out to prevent the Danes from prevailing having overcome Indonesian seventh-seeds Hardianto Hardianto and Berry Angriawan 21-16, 21-17 in the penultimate round.

The mixed doubles final will be an all-Indian clash between Ponnappa and B. Sumeeth Reddy, and Pranaav Jerry Chopra and N. Sikki Reddy.

Seventh seeds Ponnappa and Reddy pulled off a shock 19-21, 21-18, 21-18 win over top seeds Joachim Fischer Nielsen and Pedersen of Denmark.

Second seeds Chopra and Reddy also beat a Danish duo, Mathias Christiansen and Sara Thygesen, 21-18, 21-13.
