Germany's Isabell Werth secured a third win in the International Equestrian Federation Dressage World Cup Western European League in Amsterdam today.

It followed the superb form she showed when winning in Lyon and Stuttgart late last month.

The six-time Olympic champion, riding mare Weihegold, scored a whopping freestyle mark of 90.720 today to dominate the 15-strong field at the RAI Arena.

Britain's Carl Hester and mount Nip Tuck scored 83.325 to finish second.

Patrick Kittel of Sweden scored 80.269 for third place on Deja.

Home hope Edward Gal and Glock’s Voice had to settle for fourth with 80.425.

“I’m so happy, this is our best form ever and I hope to save that for as long as I can." said Werth.

"We are becoming safer with the music, more confident and together with it, this was really a perfect day.

"My mare will have a little break now and in the meantime I will try to qualify Johnny [Don Johnson] or Emilio so I have a second choice of horse if I need one for the final.”

Werth will hope she can return to the dominant form she showed when winning the individual and team gold medals at Atlanta 1996.

The retirement of Valegro, the horse ridden by London 2012 and Rio 2016 Olympic champion Charlotte Dujardin, could play to her advantage.

The 47-year-old has moved to the top of the Western European League table in front Hester in second and Ireland’s Judy Reynolds - who did not compete today - in third.

Werth will remain a hot favourite for the title when the World Cup series final begins in Omaha, Nebraska on March 27.
