United World Wrestling (UWW) has launched a worldwide licensing programme for its branded mats which are used in competitions.

The programme, a first for the governing body, deals with both the manufacturing and distribution of the mats.

According to UWW, the aim is to ensure the safety of wrestlers as well as guaranteeing high standards.

The goal is to "improve and certify the surface conditions on which wrestlers around the world train and compete", a statement said.
