The Organising Committee for March’s Sao Paulo 2017 Youth Parapan American Games has launched the social media profiles for the event with two months until it officially gets underway.

The upcoming event can now be found on social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Around 1,000 athletes, aged 12 to 21 years old, from more than 20 countries are expected to compete in 12 sports at the Brazilian Paralympic Centre in Sao Paulo.

The Games are scheduled to take place between March 20 and 25.

The 12 sports to make the programme include athletics, boccia, five and seven-a-side football, goalball and judo. 

Powerlifting, sitting volleyball, swimming and table tennis are also on the programme, as are wheelchair basketball and tennis.

The 2013 edition of the Games were held in Buenos Aires in Argentina.

More than 600 athletes from 16 countries competed across 10 sports.

Brazil topped the medal table while 15 countries reaching the podium at least once during the Games.

Barquisimeto in Venezuela staged the inaugural edition in 2005, with athletes from 10 countries competing.

The mascot of the 2017 Games was given the name Mona after the results of a public poll were revealed recently.

Three names were shortlisted for the mascot - a female red howler monkey - with voting open on the Brazilian Paralympic Committee's (CPB) Facebook page.

More than 7,500 votes were cast with Mona winning with a tally of 3,053.
