Germany's multiple world champion Andrea Eskau collected her third cross-country victory of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Para-Nordic World Cup in Western Center today.

Eskau crossed the line first in the women’s sprint freestyle sitting event in a time of 3 min 33.18sec, to add another victory to her long distance freestyle and middle distance classic wins from earlier in the competition.

The German has been in sublime form in Ukraine this week as she aims to defend her World Para Nordic Skiing Championships titles in the sprint, middle and long distance events next month in Finsterau.

Belarus’ Lidziya Hrafeyeva and Norway’s Birgit Skarstein finished second and third in 3:47.89 and 3:47.73 respectively.

Ukraine continued to dominate on home snow with wins in all of the other sprint freestyle races today.

In the men’s sitting, reigning world champion Maksym Yarovyi finally topped the podium having finished second on both previous days.

Yarovyi won in a time of 3:04.26 while Belarus’ Dzmitry Loban finished 13 seconds behind in 3:17.97.

South Korea’s Eui Hyun Sin completed the podium in a time of 3:12.43.

Iurii Utkin and guide Ruslan Perekhoda secured their first cross-country World Cup win of the season in the men’s visually impaired.

Belarus’ Yury Holub, alongside guide Dzmitry Budzilovich, took the bronze medal in 3:37.98.

The host country’s skiers also took the first two spots in the women’s visually impaired, with Oksana Shyshkova and guide Vitalii Kazakov emerging as World Cup winners for a fifth time this year in a time of 4:22.65.

Olga Prylutska, guided by Borys Babar, crossed the line in 4:27.96 to claim second while Austria’s Carina Edlinger and guide Julian Josef Edlinger finished third in 4:30.05.

Ukraine’s Grygorii Vovchynskyi was the fastest in the men’s standing event as he defeated compatriot Ihor Reptyukh.

Vovchynskyi won in 3:30.60 while Reptyukh crossed over more than ten seconds later in 3:41.16.

A time of 3:43.21 was enough to secure Finland’s Ilkka Tuomisto the final place on the podium.

Ukraine's dominance was emphasised when they performed a clean sweep in the women’s standing, with multiple Paralympic champion Oleksandra Kononova winning in 4:14.10.

Kononova defeated her compatriots Liudmyla Liashenko and Iryna Bui, who finished second and third in 4:18.51 and 4:43.13 respectively.

The World Cup biathlon events will start tomorrow with the individual races.

The sprint and the middle distance events will take place on January 19 and 20 respectively.
