India produced a superb performance to beat Belgium 2-1 and claim the Men's Junior Hockey World Cup title on home turf in front of 17,000 fans in Uttar Pradesh.

The home side rose to the occasion to claim a first global junior event in 15 years as spectators crammed into the Major Dhyan Chand Hockey Stadium.

It took just eight minutes for them to make the breakthrough courtesy of a sensational backhand strike from Gurjant Singh.

Simranjeet Singh added a second after 14 minutes to open clear daylight.

Belgium kept fighting, but after missing a series of chances the game was nearly over before a late penalty corner from Fabrice Van Bockrijck reduced the arrears.

It completed an unbeaten tournament for the home side as they secured a second title to follow their 2001 triumph in Australia.
