Boyd Exell continued his superb International Equestrian Federation (FEI) Driving World Cup form with victory despite entering as a wildcard at the London International Hose Show.

The Australian, who claimed his ninth consecutive World Cup win in Geneva last week, produced a superb performance to triumph at the London Olympia in a time of 87.34 seconds.

He edged out Dutch rival Koos de Ronde, who took second place in 94.155 but claimed maximum World Cup points due to Exell's wildcard status.

József Dobrovitz of Hungary finished in third place in a time of 101.11.

He narrowly beat Georg von Stein of Germany, who placed fourth in 106.04.

"I knew Dobrovitz and De Ronde had made mistakes, so my plan was to drive smooth," said Exell afterwards.

"Half way through the course my back stepper told me I was six seconds up, so in the last phase of the course I did not take any risks.”

Exell remains on top of the World Cup standings with 27 points after five of the eight legs.

Dobrovitz lies second with 21 points, one clear of De Ronde with 20.

“I am very pleased with my team of horses, they went very well," added de Ronde, who repeated his Olympia victories in 2012 and 2014," the Dutch winner added.

"I really went for it, but I had an unfortunate knock down in the second obstacle, so the rest of the course I drove fast but without risk."

The next leg of the World Cup season is due to begin in Mechelen, Belgium on December 26.
