The International Judo Federation (IJF) has extended its partnership with worldwide equipment providers Taishan Sports through to 2020, it has been announced.

The company, founded in China in 1978, have been a long-standing partner of the IJF and the new deal will include the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

According to judo’s worldwide governing body, Taishan Sports "sustain the development and the promotion of judo by offering high-quality level sports equipment that are necessary to the judo activity".

The renewed partnership includes a co-operation agreement regarding judo equipment research.

It comes as Taishan Sports continues to be one of the main research centres for the IJF, with a specific interest in the development of the sport’s essential equipment such as tatami and judogi, as well as power-training technology.

"I wish to thank Bian Zhiliang, chairman of Taishan Sport Group, for the long-time cooperation, partnership and trust in Judo and in the IJF,” IJF President Marius Vizer said.

The Impulse Gym Club, which is part of the Taishan Sports Group, is specialised in the production of power-training technology and now has more than 10 million members.

The IJF hope the technology can be implemented in more than 1,000 gyms in China to aid the development of the sport.

"In conjunction with Impulse Gym Club, a new type of gym infrastructure will be launched, which will be directly connected with judo training facilities," the IJF said in a statement.

The deal was signed in Budapest, a candidate city for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The Hungarian capital is also due to host next year’s IJF World Championships having been awarded the event in March 2015.

Competition at the IJF’s flagship biennial international competition is scheduled for August 28 to September 3 at a venue which has not yet been announced.
