Muscat in Oman, Katowice in Poland and Geneva in Switzerland have all expressed an interest in hosting the next World Conference on Doping in Sport, it has been announced.

The three cities submitted expressions of interests to the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) in staging the Conference, due to be staged in November 2019.

"WADA is delighted to have received such a strong level of interest from three outstanding cities for what promises to be a crucial World Conference on Doping in Sport," said WADA President, Sir Craig Reedie.

"The World Conference will represent the culmination of active stakeholder consultation that is already underway concerning WADA’s path forward as it relates to compliance, governance and other matters of importance to clean sport.

"We look forward to appointing the host city during our May 2017 Foundation Board meeting."

The deadline for expressions of interest had been November 25.

A vote on which city to choose is due to take place during the WADA Foundation Board meeting in Montreal on May 12.

During the last WADA Foundation Board meeting in Glasgow last month, three Working Groups were formed to review the Agency’s governance structure, review the laboratory accreditation process and evaluate establishing an Independent Testing Authority.

It was agreed that these Groups are to report back at the next Foundation Board meeting next May and be completed by November 2017.

The Board upheld that a World Conference be organised for end-2019 but that may be reviewed at the end of next depending on the progress of the Working Groups.

The 2019 World Conference will be the fifth event of its kind, following in the footsteps of those held in: Lausanne in 1999, Copenhagen in March 2003, Madrid in 2007 and Johannesburg in 2013.

At the last edition of the event in the South African city Sir Craig was elected President to replace John Fahey.
