Stade de Lyon has been announced as the venue for the 2018 UEFA Europa League final by European football’s governing body.

The decision was taken at their Executive Committee meeting in Nyon, with the awarding of the final of their secondary club competition one of several announcements made.

It will be the first time the 58,000 capacity Stade de Lyon will stage a major European final, with the stadium having only opened in the French city in January.

Home to Ligue 1 side Lyon, the stadium was home to six matches at Euro 2016, including the semi-final between Wales and eventual champions Portugal.

The 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup is due to be opened at the venue, while it will also stage the concluding game of the tournament.

This year’s Europa League final is being staged at Solna's Friends Arena, the home of the Swedish national football team.

Both the 2018 UEFA Champions League and UEFA Super Cup final hosts had already been decided prior to the meeting, with the events set to take place in Kyiv and Tallinn respectively.

Scotland and Georgia were selected as the hosts of the UEFA European Women's Under-19 Championship final tournaments in 2019 and 2020.

It will be the first-time Scotland have organised a UEFA tournament since 1998, when they held the men’s under-16 Championship.

They have, however, held several club finals, including the 2007 UEFA Cup decider between Spanish clubs Espanyol and Sevilla, with the latter coming out on top.

Scotland will hope home advantage acts as a boost for their team, having participated in four editions of the tournament, only to be eliminated at the group stage of each.

Georgia will take over as hosts in 2020, with the country having never advanced beyond the qualifying stage of the competition before.

The Championships are due to be held in Northern Ireland in 2017, before taking place in Switzerland the following year.
