Hongkong Post are to launch a new stamp to celebrate the efforts of the territory's athletes at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.

A total of 24 athletes represented Hong Kong in September, across eight sports.

The team's performance resulted in a total of six medals, leaving Hong Kong 40th in the overall standings.

The first of their two gold medals came in the BC4 boccia mixed individual event, where Leung Yuk Wing triumphed, while swimmer Tang Wai Lok topped the podium in the men’s S14 200 metres freestyle.

Wheelchair fencing events would provide the Hong Kong team with two silvers and one bronze, with Ng Mui Wui completing their haul by earning bronze in the women’s S11 singles table tennis event.

Hongkong Post will now produce "heartwarming stamps" under the theme of "congratulations on the outstanding achievements of Hong Kong Paralympians in the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games".

"Hongkong Post is pleased to issue a mini-pane and a souvenir cover to commemorate the accomplishments of the Hong Kong, China, delegation at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games," a statement said.

"The commemorative issue also embodies our wishes for the sustainable development of local Paralympic sports and hence continued success for Hong Kong Paralympians in the international sporting community.

"The mini-pane captures the Paralympians in action and the cheerfulness of the medalists."

A souvenir cover will also be produced, depicting the Hong Kong team arriving during the Olympic Stadium during the Opening Ceremony of the Paralympics.

The stamps are scheduled to go on sale on December 21, but will be on display at various post offices in the build-up to their release.
