Lilly King claimed two gold medals within an hour on the second day of the International Swimming Federation (FINA) World Short Course Championships in Windsor.

The American claimed double gold at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, where she triumphed in the 4x100 metres medley relay and 100m breaststroke events.

King would replicate the haul over the shorter distance of 50m in Windsor, with her first gold coming as part of a world record performance by the American team in the medley relay.

Joined by Alexandra De Loof, Kelshi Worrell and Katrina Konopka, the quartet touched home in a winning time of 1min 43.27sec, shaving over half a second of Denmark’s record.

Italy would finish as the runners-up in 1:45.38, while a time of 1:45.98 saw Denmark round off the podium.

King was back in the pool shortly afterwards in the 50m breaststroke, where she saw off the challenge of world record holder Alia Atkinson by winning in an American record time of 28.92, with her Jamaican rival ending second in 29.11.

Molly Hannis secured the bronze for the United States in a time of 29.58.

Hungary’s Katinka Hosszu would also seal her second gold of the Championships by winning the women’s 200m butterfly in 2:02.15, adding to her success in the 400m individual medley.

Worrell would push the triple Olympic champion close by finishing in a time of 2:02.89, while China’s Zhang Yufei earned the bronze medal by clocking 2:05.10.

A third title would soon follow for Hosszu, with the Hungarian securing gold in the women’s 100m backstroke in a time of 55.54.

The home favourite Kylie Masse earned silver for Canada in 56.24, while Britain’s Georgia Davies finished 0.01 seconds ahead of Australia’s Emily Seebohm to take bronze in 56.45.

Both South Africa’s Chad Le Clos and South Korea’s Park Tae-hwan had the opportunity to earn their second title of the meet when they went head-to-head in the men’s 200m freestyle.

The latter would prove triumphant in a Championship record time of 1:41.03, forcing Le Clos to relinquish the title he claimed back in 2014, as he took the silver medal in 1:41.65.

Russia's Aleksandr Krasnykh secured the final podium place by ending in 1:41.95.

Mitch Larkin was able to achieve what Le Clos could not, as the Australian secured consecutive short course world titles in the 100m backstroke.

He would touch 0.04 seconds ahead of Russia’s Andrei Shabasov to win the gold in a time of 49.65, while Xu Jiayu rounded off the podium places in 50.02.

Germany’s Marco Koch won the men’s 100m breaststroke title in 56.77, holding off the challenge of FINA World Cup champion Vladimir Morozov of Russia, who clocked 57.00.

Italy’s Fabio Scozzoli ended 0.04 seconds off the pace to complete the podium positions.

Morozov would finish the night top of the podium, with the Russia joining team-mates Aleksei Brianskii, Mariia Kameneva and Rozaliya Nasretdinova to win the mixed 4x50m freestyle in a time of 1:29.73.

The Netherlands and Canada secured the remaining podium spots in 1:29.82 and 1:29.83 respectively.
