The Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) have awarded their Gold Inspiration Award for excellence in Olympic marketing to Optus, their telecommunications partner.

An independent judging panel considered Optus’ Australian Olympic Team programme to be unique, innovative and well planned.

They were congratulated on having an authentic and consistent message of "The Support Network" during their campaign, which was launched in the months leading up to the Games, while their efforts were found to have connected strongly with the athletes and public alike.

It was claimed the campaign achieved unsurpassed results, including the engagement at local Optus stores and social channels to ensure staff, customers and the Australian public were supporting the Olympic team.

"We are thrilled to have been selected for this award," said Corin Dimopoulos, head of brand and communications at Optus.

"It’s been a wonderful year, supporting the Australian Olympic and Paralympic Committees.

"It’s not every day we get to work on such prestigious properties as the Olympic Games."

The judging panel consisted of John Steedman, chairman of the WPP AUNZ marketing group, deputy chair of the AOC Athlete’s Commission Kim Brennan and Nicholas Davie, part owner of the PublicisMojo advertising agency.

Swisse were presented with the Silver Inspiration Award, following a programme which looked at what helped power Australians to their dreams.

The vitamin company’s campaign looked beyond the results of athletes to understand the challenges they face, and uncovered the dedication and determination they possess to achieve their sporting dreams.

They were also recognised in the best social media category, with their efforts featuring an extensive production of content distributed across all platforms, including their daily video "The Rio Round-Up".

Woolworths were presented with the Bronze Inspiration Award, after the judges were impressed with their idea of "Grown in Australia, Picked for Rio" which was carried across a number of platforms.

They also helped with the AOC’s "Eat Like A Champ" programme, which promotes healthy eating to kids.

The awards were presented to Australian Olympic Team partners or suppliers who were found to have achieved extraordinary success through their Olympic partnership.
