Top seed Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei secured his place in the men’s singles final at the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Macau Open after comfortably overcoming China’s Huang Yuxiang at the Tap Seac Multisport Pavilion.

Chou powered to a 21-13, 21-19 victory in the Grand Prix Gold tournament and will now go on to face China’s Zhao Jun Peng, a surprise 17-21, 21-12, 21-11 winner over sixth seed Tzu Wei Wang of Chinese Taipei, in tomorrow’s final.

In the women’s singles, third-ranked Cheung Ngan Yi of Hong Kong suffered a shock 11-21, 17-21 defeat at the hands of unseeded Chen Xiaoxin of China.

Awaiting Chen in the final is sixth-seeded compatriot Chen Yufei, who beat fellow Chinese Zhang Yiman 21-16, 21-12 in the last four.

Chinese Taipei’s Yang Lee and Jhe-Huei Lee remain on course for success in the men’s doubles as the second seeds defeated eighth-ranked Hardianto Hardianto and Kenas Adi Haryanto of Indonesia, 21-19, 21-18.

Standing between them and the title are fifth seeds Zhang Nan and Lu Kai of China after they overcame fourth seeds Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Rian Ardianto of Indonesia, 21-13, 21-15.

In women’s doubles, China’s Chen Qingchen and Jia Yifan moved to within one victory of justifying their top seeding by beating Malaysia’s Mei Kuan Chow and Lee Meng Yean 21-15, 21-9.

Hoping to stop them doing so will be Indonesia’s Anggia Shitta Awanda and Mahadewi Istirani Ni Ketut, who upset the odds to defeat second seeds Vivian Hoo and Khe Wei Woon of Malaysia 13-21, 21-19, 21-10.

Hong Kong’s Tang Chun Man and Tse Ying Suet will fancy their chances in the mixed doubles final after the seventh seeds saw off third-ranked Kian Meng Tan and Pei Jing Lai of Malaysia with a 21-15, 30-28 triumph.

Their opponents will be the unseeded Chinese pairing of Zhang and Li Yinhui, 21-17, 21-15 victors at the expense of fourth seeds Lee Chun Hei Reginald and Chau Hoi Wah of Hong Kong.
