The official draw for the seventh season of the World Series of Boxing (WSB) is due to take place tomorrow as the 12 competing teams learn their schedules for the preliminary stages.

Making use of a regional approach, all teams have already been divided into one of three divisions - Americas, Asia and Europe.

Defending champions Cuba Domadores will be joined by Caciques de Venezuela. Mexico Guerreros and Argentina Condors in Group Americas, while Season VI newcomers Uzbekistan Tigers feature in Group Asia alongside China Dragons, Astana Arlans Kazakhstan and Russian Boxing Team.

Completing the line-up are the four representatives of Group Europe, which is made up of last year’s beaten finalists British Lionhearts, Morocco Atlas Lions, Italia Thunder and France.

In all, 23 of the 90 WSB boxers to qualify for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games came away with a medal.

During Season VII, boxing fans will be able to witness the talent of the likes of Uzbekistan Tigers’ Hasanboy Dusmatov and Cuba Domadores’ Julio Cesar La Cruz, winners of the respective light flyweight and light heavyweight titles in Rio de Janeiro.

Other stand-out names include Astana Arlans Kazakhstan’s Vassily Levit, the heavyweight silver medallist, and British Lionhearts’ Joe Joyce, the super heavyweight runner-up.

All will be in action alongside an exciting crop of local favourites and new talents eager to make their mark.

"There is no other competition in boxing like WSB, one look at the commitment of the teams and the response of the fans shows the impact that it has had on the sport," said International Boxing Association (AIBA) President CK Wu.

"The very fact that six out of 10 of the men’s Olympic gold medals at Rio 2016 were won by WSB boxers highlights the level of the competition and the preparation it gives our boxers to fulfil their potential at the highest levels whilst providing a solid career path."

Season VII is due to get underway in February and will be preceded by the draft pick on December 21.

WSB has confirmed it will be officially sponsored by Sting, a high-performance sports equipment company.

Sting was the official Rio 2016 boxing supplier and the WSB claims the company’s passion for both boxing and innovation makes them the ideal partner for the requirements of the competition.

The top two teams from each group and the two strongest third-placed sides will qualify for the play-offs, which assume the format of four quarter-finals, two semi-finals and the grand final in June.

Each team competing in the preliminary stages will contest home and away matches, consisting of five bouts each, against their group rivals.

Boxers compete across five rounds, scored using the 10-points must system.
