The Badminton World Federation (BWF) Dubai World Superseries Finals was one of four events to be given a five-star ranking using the Dubai Sports Council’s (DSC) Best Organisers in Sports Events ranking system.

Launched in an effort to enhance the standard of sport event organisation, the system also seeks to ensure that events align with the Government of Dubai’s "Strategy 2021" and the DSC’s strategic plans.

The second version of the system ranked 138 events, a rise from the 87 which were assessed in the first edition.

Also achieving the top five star status was the International Swimming Federation (FINA) World Cup, the Du School Football Championship, the Residential District Championship and the Dubai Marathon.

This year's BWF Dubai World Superseries Finals - the sport's end of season event - will take place between December 14 and 18.

"I have the honour to receive this award on behalf of the international badminton community," said Poul Erik Hoyer, BWF President.

"I thank all respective bodies for this awarding.

"We have decided to organise the finals of the BWF Superseries in Dubai because of the good repute of the city, where several top sports events are organised in a splendid level.

"In spite of organising the final stages of the BWF Supeseries in various locations all over the world since 2008, the hosting of Dubai for this event remains distinctive, as the Emirate of Dubai has enhanced the international status and importance of the event.

"In this respect, the BWF Superseries has become one of the top sports events in the world badminton field."

The rankings were revealed at a festival at the Armani Hotel, which was presided over by Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai and chairman of the DSC.

The ranking system, which aims to ensure necessary conditions and quality regulations are met by organisers, classifies events into five categories: events, economic, sports, social and brand development.

A total of 113 sports events were given four stars, while 21 events gained three stars.

"The Sports Events Ranking System conforms to DSC’s strategy and meets Dubai Government strategy 2021," said Hessa Al-Kous, acting director of the sports events department at the DSC.

"The system helps organising companies and provides them with all necessary means to rank sports events, via implementation of the ranking system’s standards.

"The system will motivate companies to attain further excellence and improve abilities."

During the festival a film was shown on the launch and development of the ranking system, with another showing the events which received five stars.
