Australia’s three-time Paralympic medallist Brad Scott has announced his retirement from athletics, following the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.

Scott represented his nation at three Paralympic Games during his career, with his last appearance coming in Rio de Janeiro where he finished sixth in the men’s T37 1,500 metres in September.

The 28-year-old claimed medals on his previous two appearances at the Games, with the middle distance specialist earning 800m silver at Beijing 2008.

He would earn bronze in the event four-years later in London, where he would also secure a silver medal in the 1,500m competition.

The Australian admitted he had not reached the standard he had expected to achieve at Rio 2016, but reflected fondly on the experience at the Games when announcing his retirement.

"It was not the Games I thought it would be in terms of performance, in that I worked so hard but did not get the result I was looking for," Scott said.

"In a way they were my favourite Games because I learned so much about myself.

"I still enjoy running, but know that I have value to give in other areas."

The Australian runner also earned three World Championship silver medals and one bronze during his career.

Scott, who has cerebral palsy, has announced his intention to study primary education full time at Edith Cowan University in Joondalup.

He previously completed a degree at the University of Canberra in exercise and coaching science.
