Italian sportswear manufacturer Diadora have reprised their role as the official competition and training wear supplier of the Australian Commonwealth Games team.

Commonwealth Games Australia (CGA) partnered with Diadora for Glasgow 2014, which ended a long running relationship with Adidas that had stretched back more than a decade.

Diadora are now set to produce the kits for a home Games for the Australian team at Gold Coast 2018, with a consultation taking place between the manufacturer, CGA and athletes.

“The feedback we received from our partner sports on the team uniform for 2014 was incredibly positive so we are pleased to have Diadora back on board for Gold Coast 2018,” said Craig Phillips, CGA chief executive.

“Outfitting a team of up to 450 athletes from 18 different sports is not an easy task, but with the experience of 2014, we are confident that Diadora will deliver our team a great uniform that our athletes will be proud to wear.”

The manufacturer will work with Gold Coast 2018 and CGA to develop and design a unique polo shirt.

It is claimed the shirt will be made of 50 per cent recycled bottles, which will illustrate their commitments to delivering a sustainable Games.

Diadora have sought to express their pride in delivering the Australian kits for a home Games, with the company stating they will provide them with technologically advanced competition and training wear to help them perform to the best of their abilities.

“Diadora are proud to have provided the Competition and Training Wear for the Australian Team at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

“It was an amazing experience to watch Australian athletes represent our country and win medals in our kit and we are both grateful and excited about the opportunity of being involved with such a large and important event on home soil in 2018.”

The Games will feature 18 sports and the largest-ever integrated Para-sport programme, with 6,600 athletes from 70 nations and territories due to take part.
