Double Rio 2016 champion Dylan Alcott has withdrawn from the season ending NEC Wheelchair Tennis Masters in London, it has been announced.

The 25-year-old Australian will not play in the International Tennis Federation (ITF) event at the Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre due to injury.

Alcott is the current world number one and captured both the quad singles and quad doubles gold medals at the Rio Paralympics in September.

He was due to be the top seed in the six-player tournament and has been replaced in the draw by Shraga Weinberg of Israel, a former world number one who won mixed doubles silver at Beijing 2008 and quad doubles bronze at London 2012.

The withdrawal of Alcott, who also won a Paralympic gold medal as part of the Australian wheelchair basketball team in Beijing, means that American David Wagner will now be the top seed.

The US player has won three Paralympic gold medals, with South Africa’s Lucas Sithole and Great Britain’s Andy Lapthorne now moving up to second and third seeds respectively.

Lapthorne was beaten in the Rio quad singles final by Alcott, and also won a doubles bronze.

The tournament, due to take place from November 30 until December 4, will be staged at the London 2012 Paralympic venue for the third year in a row.

Britain's Gordon Reid, winner of his first Paralympic title in Rio de Janeiro, leads the entries for the men's singles after tying at the top of the world rankings with Frenchman Stephane Houdet.

Dutch number one and Rio Paralympic gold medallist Jiske Griffioen will seek a repeat of her victory in the 2015 women's competition.
