Sezer Huysuz has been elected President of the Turkish Judo Federation (TJF) for the next four years at the national governing body’s Congress in the capital Ankara.

The two-time Olympian won 125 of the 248 valid votes in a tight two-way contest with Muhammet Celik, who has previously undertaken national and international duties for the TJF’s Committees.

He replaces Fatih Uysal, who decided not to continue in his role having led the TJF since 2008.

Huysuz represented Turkey at Beijing 2008 and London 2012, and competed at five World Championships and numerous European Championships in the 73 kilograms division.

The multiple Turkish champion finished fifth on the global stage in 2007 and 2009, and was also winner of the Super World Cup in Moscow and World Cup events in Tallinn and Apia.

He retired in October 2012 after claiming a bronze medal at the European Club Championships, an event hosted by Istanbul.

Huysuz made a short speech after election and gave a souvenir to his predecessor Uysal in recognition of his work over the last eight years.

Celik received 123 of the 248 votes.

A total of 250 votes were cast but two were invalid.
