Kuwait's Sara Al-Hawwal won the first individual medal at the sixth Asian Shotgun Championships at the Al Forsan International Sports Resort in Abu Dhabi.

Al Hawwal overcame India's Seema Tomar in the women's trap final at the competition, which features 134 male and female shooters from 14 countries across the continent.

Earlier in the day Tomar, who took the silver medal, shot an Asian record of 74 out of 75 in qualification.

After shooting 25, 24 and 25 in the qualification phase, which was four points more than Al-Hawwal, Tomar continued her good form to win the semi-final stage with 14 points out of a maximum 15.

Despite looking like a serious contender for gold, Al-Hawaal pipped Tomar 13-11 in the final.

Ray Bassil of Lebanon claimed the bronze medal after she defeated Indian Rajeshwari Kumari.

India's women, meanwhile, won the team event with their squad featuring Tomar along with compatriots Rajeshwari Kumari and Shreyasi Singh.

Kuwait’s women team, including sisters Sara and Shahad Al-Hawwal and Asmaa Al-Qattami, won the silver while the Qatari team claimed bronze.

In men’s trap, Prithviraj Tondaiman currently leads the field with three perfect rounds of 25.

Overnight he has a one point lead over former world champion Khaled Almudhaf of Kuwait, who competed as an independent shooter with his country suspended from the sporting world due to Government interference.

The men's trap competition final headlines tomorrow's action before double trap action then takes place on Sunday (November 6).

Skeet competitions will bring the tournament to a close with the women's event taking place on November 8 while the men's event is scheduled for the following day.
