Puerto Rico started brightly in the gold medal match of the tournament featuring teams from Central America and the Caribbean.

They took a surprising 27–21 lead at half time following a stunning first half by Carlos Martinez, who scored 14 points.

Mexico, however, came roaring back in the second period taking the third quarter 22–9 and the fourth 17–12 to go on and take the title with a final score of 59–48.

Earlier in the day, the final session of the tournament began with the bronze medal match between El Salvador and Nicaragua.

All three teams finishing in medal positions would win a place at the Americas Cup in 2017 and it appeared both sides were eager to claim the third and final spot.

The game was close throughout with Nicaragua taking a 12-10 lead after the first quarter.

El Salvador fought back to then take the lead before half time, winning the second quarter 20–8 to give them a half time lead of 30-20.

In the second half Nicaragua clawed their way back into the match, trailing by just six points at the end of the third quarter.

El Salvador once again managed to pull away in the fourth to secure a 58–46 victory to claim the bronze medal.

In the third match of the day, Costa Rica and Guatemala squared off in a bid to finish fifth.

The hosts led 20-17 at the end of the first period following flawless shooting from Kenneth Gonzalez, who finished as the tournament's overall top scorer with 139 points.

In the second-half the teams traded baskets but Guatemala were ahead approaching the fourth and decisive period.

Buoyed by a lively home crowd it was Costa Rica who managed to come back and win the game 46–38.

As well as Gonzalez's award for top scorer, Efrain Martinez of Mexico won the Most Valuable Player award, while Puerto Rico's Carlos Ocasio claimed the honour of best sportsmanship.
