Ukraine have now been handed a further boost as their display has seen them rise to seventh place in the world rankings, having previously been 11th.

They were the biggest movers in the men’s rankings, with the majority of the top 10 remaining the same as Brazil and Paralympic champions Lithuania lie first and second.

Iran, China, Turkey, United States, Ukraine, Sweden, Finland and Slovenia complete the top 10.

The women’s standings are also largely unchanged, with the European Group B Championships being the only ranking tournament in October.

Brazil, China and Paralympic champions Turkey remain the top three ranked teams, with the US, Japan, Russia, Canada and Australia also preserving their positions.

Germany and Israel were the only teams in the top 10 to change rankings, after the former finished as the runners-up in Maia in Portugal, where the Group B tournament was held.

The winners of the event, Britain, has move up to 11th place and will aim to continue their rise in the coming months.

In publishing their latest rankings, the IBSA have alsi urged suggestions to be made to make the system more reliable by enhancing how they are calculated.

Currently points are calculated by the result and importance of a game, the ranking of the opposing team, regional rankings and by how recent the matches are.

The IBSA claim they will continue to use some or all of these criteria but could consider the number of tournaments played by nations in a calendar year and the number of goals scored and conceded as further ways to define the standings.
