Skating to "Buenos Aires Hora Cero" and "Baradapara un loco", Uno maintained the position at the top of the standings he had gained following the short programme with a fine free skate which scored only narrowly short of his personal best.

He reeled off a quad flip, quad toe, quadtoe-double toe and a triple Axel-triple toeloop combination, as well as two more triples and level-four spins. 

The 2015 world junior champion did crash on his second triple axel but collected 190.19 points, which gave him an overall winning total of 279.34.

"My free programme was great on the first half," said Uno, who won bronze at last season's Grand Prix Final.

"Unfortunately I missed the combination toward the end.

"The music was chosen by my longtime coach and choreographer, Mihoko Higuchi. 

"I actually did not work with a tango specialist, so maybe some of my moves are not very tango, but still I tried to give my own interpretation to the music."

Jason Brown took the silver medal after climbing above team-mate Adam Rippon following the free routine.

He scored 268.38 with Rippon taking bronze on 261.43 after he fell on a quadruple toeloop attempt.

In the ice dance at the Sears Centre Arena, there was home gold as the brother and sister team of Alex and Maia Shibutani claimed the title after their free programme, which featured excellent lifts and accomplished footwork.

They scored 185.75 points to top the standings.

"As it was brought up yesterday, this is our first competition of the season so Alex and I are thrilled with how it went," said Maia.

Silver went to another American pair, Madison Hubbel and Zachary Donohue, who tallied 175.77, with bronze going to Russia's Ekaterina Bobrova and Dmitri Soloviev on 174.77.

The Skate Canada International will be the second event of the season, beginning on October 27 in Mississauga.
