Russia's Pavel Yakushevskiy claimed a breakthrough individual sprint title as British star Katie Archibald won again at the European Track Cycling Championships in Paris' National Velodrome Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines.

Yakushevskiy, who was banned after testing positive for meldonium in March before being cleared by the Russian Anti-Doping Agency, performed superbly through the rounds to set up a final against Dutch rival Roy van den Berg.

The Russian proved too strong in winning both races for a 2-0 victory.

It marked a maiden senior Championship title for the 27-year-old in the showpiece event, albeit achieved in the absence of top riders including Britain's Olympic champion, Jason Kenny.

Ukraine's Andriy Vynokurov had earlier been similarly comfortable in winning his best of three series 2-0 against Eric Engler of Germany in the battle for bronze.

Britain may be missing many of their top riders at the continental event, but Olympic team pursuit champion Katie Archibald claimed a second gold in as many days tonight in the omnium competition.

The three-time individual pursuit champion won gold ahead of Dutch rival and two time World Championshiip bronze medallist Kirsten Wild.

Lotte Kopecky of Belgium took bronze.

Corentin Ermenault of France claimed home gold in the men's individual pursuit on the penultimate day of competition.

He clocked 4min 18.77sec to defeat Filimma Hganna of Italy, in 4:19.08, and another Dutch rider in Dion Hbeukebook, who managed 4:20.56.
