Five-time Olympic gold medallist Katie Ledecky features in Los Angeles 2024’s latest video series which focuses on American athletes’ hopes of competing at a home Games should the city be awarded the Olympics.

The series, titled “Coming Home”, includes members of United States’ teams for the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

It is the latest batch of videos to be released by Los Angeles 2024, who previously produced a “Going for Gold” series to highlighted American excitement in advance of Rio 2016.

Athletes are now heard describing the warm welcome they received from their home towns when they returned from the Games.

“I’ve always dreamed of competing at a big international meet on U.S. soil,” says Ledecky in her video.

“To have so many people in the stands cheering for Team USA, I know it could be nerve-racking, but I would just be so excited - I get goosebumps just thinking about it.

“I’ve always enjoyed getting to meet athletes from other countries, and seeing different countries, but I think it’d be really neat to show people from all across the world the US and what Los Angeles has to offer and I really hope that I can do that in 2024.”

As well as Ledecky, who claimed four titles at Rio 2016, fellow swimming gold medallist Simone Manuel, Olympic basketball champion Tamika Catchings and Paralympian David Brown are among those featured in the series.

Los Angeles 2024 have claimed they will be able to offer an “unparalleled atmosphere” should the American city be awarded the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

“Olympic and Paralympic athletes will tell you that the pinnacle of their athletic achievement was competing at the Games in front of roaring crowds and an electric atmosphere,” said Janet Evans, Los Angeles 2024 vice chair and director of athlete relations.

“As a city where 88 per cent of residents support hosting the Games, Los Angeles can guarantee an unparalleled atmosphere in 2024, not only for US athletes, but for Olympians and Paralympians from all over the world.

“Our city is home to passionate sports fans from all over the world, so every athlete can expect a home-field advantage.

“Los Angeles 2024 is working hard to create the most personalized athlete experience in 2024, so that no matter where they come from, the world’s athletes will feel at home in the City of Angels and ready to perform their best.”

It is claimed that the series, which is available on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube, shows Los Angeles 2024’s commitment to sparking enthusiasm among young people towards the values of the Olympic Movement.

Los Angeles is bidding against Budapest and Paris for the rights to host the Games in eight years time, with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) due to elect a host city in Peruvian capital Lima on September 13 next year.
