A total of eight gold medals were won by seven different countries on the penultimate day of competition at the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) World Poomsae Championships at the National Sport Village in Lima.

China, Thailand, Turkey, South Korea, Australia, United States and Ukraine all claimed gold medals during a successful third day of the Championships.

China began brightly as they defeated Chinese Taipei for the gold medal in the poomsae teams male under-30 division, with Iran and the Philippines earning bronze.

Chinese Taipei then suffered disappointment once again after they were beaten to first place in the junior female division of the team competition by Thailand, with Vietnam and China claiming bronze.

In the pairs over-30 division, Turkey were victorious as Iran took silver and Chinese Taipei and Brazil won the bronze medals.

Meanwhile, as action turned to individual events, South Korea's Kwang-ho Park won the gold medal in the men’s under-30 event.

China’s Yuxiang Zhu, Iran’s Mahdi Jamali Fashi and the Philippines’ Rodolfo Reyes Jr. joined South Korea on the podium with silver and bronze medals respectively.

Elsewhere, in the individual men’s over-65 category, Australia’s Barry Jordan claimed the title ahead of Britain’s Michael Pejic, while Brazil’s Moyses Takanohashi and Bruce Gallup of the US had to settle for third place.

America's Thoa Nguyen was victorious in the individual female under-50 competition.

Germany’s Candida Tunkel won the silver medal and Russia’s Tatiana Parfenenko and Sweden’s Charlotte Dahlqvist took the bronze.

In the freestyle event, Turkish duo Kubra Dagli and Emirhan Muran claimed their second gold medal of the day in the pairs over-17.

The American pair of Alex Twu and Monina Dizon won the silver.

China's Tingfeng Deng and Mengyue Wei and Mark Lorenz Balcita and his partner Janna Dominique Oliva of the Philippines finished third and claimed the bronze medals.

In the final event of the day, the Ukraine's Anna Borysenko beat Eva Sandersen of Denmark to the freestyle individuals female under-17 title, with Turkey's Gulsena Karakuyulu and Canadian Michelle Lee clinching bronze.

Currently not on the Olympic programme, poomsae is a non-sparring event where individuals or teams perform a "sequence of movements arranged in a meaningful order in response to attacks from multiple imaginary assailants".
