The official, who replaced Yang-ho Cho as head of Pyeongchang 2018 in May, believes public participation is key to the success of the Games.

He has vowed to increased promotional events in order to drum up support across the host nation.

"An Olympics represents a complete entertainment package," Lee told the Yonhap news agency.

"We want to host an economic, cultural and environmental Olympics that also promotes peace. 

"And to make it happen, everything from catering, tourism, transportation and accommodations have to come together - we have to strive to be perfect in every aspect."

"Since we unveiled our mascots in July, we've been operating promotional booths in and outside the country to really deliver the message that it's now time for Pyeongchang

"To drum up more excitement for the Games, we will launch more promotional campaigns in major cities like Seoul, Busan and Gwangju, and other populated areas.

"I hope the people will feel proud of being the host and become an active part of the Olympics."

South Korean organisers are expecting pressure to increase now Rio 2016 is over.

Various concerns remain, including over the national and international profile of the event, as well as construction and sponsorship issues.

South Korean organisers claim venues are now 88 per cent complete.

"There isn't much time left, and we have to use it efficiently," Lee added. 

"After the end of the Rio de Janeiro Summer Olympics, the eyes of the sporting world are now on Pyeongchang."

International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach visited the South Korean CountyPyeongchangn IOC last week.

An IOC Coordination Commission inspection, due to take place from October 5 to 7, will offer another challenge.
