Brady Ellison, the most successful athlete in the tournament's history, won his fourth Archery World Cup final gold medal as he defeated Sjef van den Berg of The Netherlands in the men's recurve competition at the King’s Garden in Odense.

The American, who has also won three Pan American Games golds and three Olympic medals, backed up his World Cup wins in 2010, 2011 and 2014.

He beat the Dutchman in the most dramatic way possible - a single arrow shoot-off.

Ellison raced into a 4-0 lead in the final after the first two sets, however his opponent improved in the third and then fought back to level the match at 4-4 in the fourth.

The fifth end saw both archers shoot two tens and an eight, despite judges having to measure one of van den Berg’s arrows as his eight was incredibly close to the nine boundary.

There was a tense moment as the judges measured, but it stayed an eight and the final went to a shoot-off tied at 5-5.

Brady shot first and scored a nine whilst his opponent could only produce an eight.

"It means a lot, it's my fourth World Cup final championship," said Ellison, winner of Olympic team silver and individual bronze medals at Rio 2016.

"It caps a pretty good year.

"I won the indoor World Cup final, an individual Olympic medal, bronze at the World Championships, and now this."

In the bronze medal match, Olympic champion Ku Bonchan of South Korea beat Chinese Taipei's Wei Chun-Heng 6-4.

In the women's recurve competition, former World Cup winner Ki Bo Bae of South Korea claimed the gold medal as she defeated compatriot and defending champion Choi Misun.

Ki won her first World Cup title four years ago in Tokyo, just a few months after becoming Olympic champion in both the individual and team events at London 2012.

Her second crown on archery’s international circuit also follows Olympic success after she won individual bronze and team gold in Rio de Janeiro in August.

Ki dominated the match to claim the circuit crown 7-1 against an opponent who was also part of the team gold medal winning line-up in Rio.

She only landed one arrow out of the gold, an eight, throughout the contest.

The title means Ki becomes only the second female recurve archer to have won the World Cup final twice, with the other being compatriot Yun Ok-Hee.

Chinese Taipei’s Tan Ya-Ting, fifth individually at at Rio 2016, won the bronze medal contest after defeating Wu Jiaxin of China 6-2.

There was further South Korean success in the recurve mixed team final.

Ku and his partner Choi came through against host nation archers Maja Jager and Johan Weiss of Denmark.

The Korean duo won the country's fourth circuit title in the competition since it was introduced in 2009 - and the second in a row.

After splitting the first set, Korea shot a perfect 40 in the second and 38 in the third to take the match 5-1.

"It’s very meaningful to win this competition. I’m very happy that it happened after things didn’t go well for me in Rio," said Misun, who went out in the first round at the Olympics.
