The International Cricket Council (ICC) has signed a deal with CSM Sport & Entertainment as part of a bid to enhance the commercial performance of associate and affiliate countries (AMs).

It is hoped that CSM, a division of marketing services group Chime Communications, will help empower countries to use incoming revenue to grow the game and develop long-term success on the field of play.

This, it is hoped, will reduce their reliance on income from the ICC, the sport's global governing body.

There are currently 39 associate countries affiliated to the ICC - with these making up the second level of the international cricket hierarchy behind the 10 full members, who are also the Test playing nations.

Fifty-six affiliate countries make up the third-tier of the system.

A commercial and marketing "playbook" will now be created by CSM, containing a mixture of "theory and practical tools".

The organisation will work directly with a number of members to help implement the strategies and tactics, tailoring support to the needs of each individual country.

Andy Hobbs, the ICC's interim head of global development, said: "A key part of our strategic objective to create more competitive teams on the world stage is to assist more AMs to develop into highly capable, self-sufficient national federations.

"Therefore, supporting AMs in the generation of non-ICC income streams is hugely beneficial in that process.

"All members can utilise the playbook as a starting point but they also have the option of working directly with CSM to progress their commercial approach."

Mike Davis, the CSM's regional director, added: "We are delighted to be working with the ICC on this project and will be calling on all our international expertise and experience of developing long-term, impactful commercial strategies for rights holders around the world.

"We look forward to supporting the ICC with the capacity building programme by helping associate and affiliate members enhance their own commercial revenues."
