South Korea moved to the brink of claiming a fourth Women's World Amateur Team Golf Championships crown as they carded a third-round score of 138 to move 14 strokes ahead of nearest challengers Switzerland at Riviera Maya in Mexico.

Hye-Jin Choi was the leading performer from the South Korean side as she shot a four-under-par 68, which included an impressive five birdies on the front nine.

She was backed up a solid display from Min Ji Park, the 2016 Australian Women’s Amateur champion, who fired a two-under 70.

Choi also sits at the summit of the individual standings, with her round today matched only by Leslie Cloots of Belgium.

The other player on the South Korean team, Hyun Kyung Park, managed a one-under-par 71 but her score was not counted towards the Asian nation's overall total.

"At the moment I am happy to be leading the team and the individual leaderboards but this Championship is more important for the team event so I am trying not to think about being individual leader and am focused on winning the team event,” Choi said.

“Although there is a big gap I will try to think this is the first round tomorrow and focus more on my game and then maybe a better result will come.”

Switzerland, the leaders after day one of the competition, kept hold of second place but will need a minor miracle if they are to overhaul the South Koreans during tomorrow's fourth and final round.

The Swiss team scored 145 for their third round after Kim Metraux carded a three-under-par 69, while older sister Morgane struggled and could only post a disappointing 76.

Thailand sit third after they managed 143 today thanks to a 70 from Kanyalak Preedasuttijit and a 73 from Parajee Anannarukarn.

"I don’t think about it," Kim Metraux said.

"I will play my best and then see what happens.

"I can’t control what they are doing and it’s better if I don’t look at what they are doing and focus on my game."
