Britain and Argentina’s Davis Cup semi-final will begin with a blockbuster contest and a repeat of the Olympic final at Rio 2016 as gold medallist Andy Murray is due to face Juan Martin del Potro at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow tomorrow.

Murray triumphed in four sets against the Argentine to clinch his second straight Olympic title in Rio de Janeiro last month and Del Potro, who is continuing his recovery from a long injury lay-off, will be out for revenge in the first rubber.

The Briton will be hoping to get his nation off to the best possible start in the tricky last-four clash as they bid to defend their Davis Cup title.

Following the titanic battle between two of the game’s top players, Kyle Edmund, who enjoyed a superb run to the fourth round of the US Open earlier this month before suffering defeat to world number one Novak Djokovic, will entertain Guido Pella.

Andy and brother Jamie Murray, US Open men’s doubles champion with Brazilian partner Bruno Soares, are then set to team up against Federico Delbonis and Leonardo Mayer, though this is subject to change as captains can change their nominations up to one hour before the start of play.

In the other semi-final, Croatia will host nine-times Davis Cup winners France at the Kresimir Cosic Hall in Zadar.

Borna Coric has been tasked with getting the home side on the board in the first rubber, with the 19-year-old scheduled to take on veteran Richard Gasquet, a Wimbledon semi-finalist last year.

Gasquet was a late addition to the French squad for the tie after Gael Monfils, the world number eight, was forced to withdraw with injury.

Marin Cilic, US Open winner in 2014, will take to the court in the second singles rubber against Lucas Pouille, who stunned Rafael Nadal of Spain in round four at Flushing Meadows.

Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut, ranked at number one in the world in doubles, are then slated to clash with Ivan Dodig and Marin Draganj on Saturday (September 17).

Ahead of the eagerly-anticipated semi-finals, the International Tennis Federation (ITF) has announced Head will become an international partner of the Davis Cup from January 2017.

The three-year agreement, signed earlier this week, will see Head produce and sell Davis Cup branded high performance tennis balls across the world.

"This partnership with Head is very good news for Davis Cup by BNP Paribas as we will see Davis Cup branded balls sold globally," said ITF President David Haggerty.

"Davis Cup, played in around 60 countries each year, helps the ITF to grow and develop the game around the world.

"Over the next three years, we will work closely with Head to promote this partnership on a world-wide basis and inspire more people to play tennis."
