South Korean players dominated as action began in the men's singles draw at the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Belarus Open at the Palace of Tennis in Minsk.

Number one seed Jang Woojin, the world ranked number 48, swept through in four straight games 11-5, 11-7, 11-7, 11-6 over Yang Tzu-Yi of Taiwan.

His team-mates Kim Min-hyeok and Cho Seungmin were similarly successful.

Kim beat Aliaksandr Khanin of Belarus in four straight game: 11-4, 11-8, 11-8, 11-7 and Cho Seungmin overcame Yevhen Prtschepa of Ukraine: 11-7, 11-8, 13-15, 12-10, 11-9.

Grigory Vlasov of Russia is leading the European challenge, the second seed triumphing 11-8, 11-3, 16-14, 10-12, 11-8 over Ukraine's Viktor Yefimov.

Japanese top seeds Hitomi Sato and Yuka Ishigaki were also comfortable winners in the women's draw. 

Sato beat Wang Yi-ju of Taiwan, 11-8, 11-4, 13-15, 11-5, 11-2, while Ishigaki got the better of Russian Daria Chernova, 11-6, 10-12, 11-7, 11-5, 11-6.

Taiwan's Lin Chia-Hsuan produced the shock result of the day in the women's under-21 singles after a nailbiting victory over Yoon Hyobin of South Korea. 

Lin edged a pulsaiting battle 11-9, 11-9, 11-13, 12-10.

Number one seed Adriana Diaz of Puerto Rico joined her in the quarter-finals after a comfortable victory today.

Action is due to continue over the weekend before finals on Sunday (September 11).
