The current world record holder finished the competition with a score of 193.4 points which was a Paralympic final record.

Javanmardidodmani claimed her second Paralympics medal after her only previous appearance, at London 2012, saw her finish with a bronze.

The Iranian's closest rivals going into the final were surprisingly eliminated in rounds one and two.

Alieh Mahmoudikordkheili, also of Iran, finished top of the qualifying standings before being eliminated in the final.

A bigger upset was when London 2012 champion Olivera Nakovska-Bikova of Macedonia then bowed out of the competition in the second series after a poor display left her with just 92.8 points.

The silver medal in today's final was won by Olga Kovalchuk of Ukraine with a score of 191.2 points.

Turkey's Aysegul Pehlivanlar finished in third and took the bronze medal as she finished some way off of the top two on 172.3 points.

"I'm very happy that I get the first gold medal for the Republic of Iran and for my delegation," said Javanmardidodmani.

"I am so very happy,

"This tells my people that disability is not limitation."
